About Historic Filipinotown Ilocano Drop
What inspired you to do this drop Historic Filipinotown?
Being born and raised in Southern California, I’ve noticed that every culture seems to carve out its own space—a town that reflects who they are. You can feel it the moment you enter. For example, when you’re in Chinatown, you instantly know it: the red lanterns, the dragons, the architecture—all speaking the language of heritage and pride.
But when it comes to Historic Filipino Town, the visibility isn’t always the same.
Our culture is here—rooted, alive, resilient—but it often lives quietly, in memories, in stories, in people.
That’s why through our art; we aim to bring that presence forward- to make our history and identity as visible as the
murals, the colors, and the symbols that represent us.
Art becomes a way to
honor our elders, empower our youth, and ensure that when people walk through Historic Filipinotown, they feel our Filipino spirit.
On your back neck label, you have the word Ilocano with a sun, can you let us know what this means to you guys?
Ilocano is one of the many dialects spoken throughout the Philippines, and it connects deeply to both our family roots. Beyond language, Ilocano represents a way of
life—grounded in discipline, humility, and perseverance. These values are woven into our culture, shaping how we live, create, and honor our heritage.
Priti- I love you painting style. What inspired you to run with the calligraphy font and artwork you share with the world?
Thank you. My style is a quiet reflection of
self—shaped by time, memory, and devotion. It is the pulse of who I am. Through this I want people to see me- in my art, my roots, and every corner of my life.
BBOE- Being born x raised in Filipinotown, what does this drop mean to you personally?
Historic Filipinotown is my home —my playground, my pulse, my memory. It’s where my family’s laughter echoes through cracked sidewalks, where love and struggle share the same street.
Growing up here, I always wondered —how can a place named for us carry so few faces, colors, or symbols that reflect who we are? So, I paint.
To fill the walls & let every passerby see the beauty that’s
always been here —the spirit of our people, alive in my work.
